Vis and Ramin, a work by Fakhr al-Din As'ad Gorgani, stands as one of the most significant creations in the realm of lyrical literature. In this work, the poet depicts a pre-Islamic Iranian romance. This study employs a descriptive-analytical approach based on library research and utilizes Robert J. Sternberg’s "triangular theory of love"—a psychological framework—to examine and analyze Ramin’s romantic nature. The findings indicate that Ramin’s love lacks relational intimacy. Although Ramin’s love encompasses elements such as the joy of being with the beloved, mutual understanding, the sharing of oneself and one’s possessions, the exchange of emotional support, intimate communication, and mutual respect, it lacks components like the desire to enhance the beloved’s well-being, respectful behavior, and the ability to rely on the beloved in times of need; nor does it possess all the elements associated with intimacy. Another component of Sternberg’s triangular theory of love is passion, and Ramin’s love ranks at the highest level in this regard. Commitment—the third component of Sternberg’s theory—manifests in Ramin’s romantic nature more as an emotional impulse than as a stable, rational commitment. Based on the foregoing, it is evident that Ramin’s love lacks intimacy and commitment; it comprises only the passion component, characterizing it as a form of infatuation.
